Some wedding days feel especially grounded in the place they’re held. Marah and Jonathan’s wedding at Callawassie Club carried that feeling from start to finish—set along the marsh, shaped by the light, and built around moments that felt deeply personal.

A Morning in a Coastal Cottage

The day began in a cottage just off the property. Light moved easily through the space, details laid out, and the quiet rhythm of the morning setting the tone before everything began. Getting ready in a space like this always feels different. More relaxed. More connected. It creates a natural transition into the rest of the day.

A Private Prayer Before the Ceremony

Before the ceremony, Marah and Jonathan shared a private prayer—standing together without seeing each other. One of those moments that doesn’t need direction. Just presence. It created a pause in the day. A chance to step away, center themselves, and hold onto something meaningful before everything unfolded.

A Ceremony on the Lawn

Their ceremony took place on the lawn at Callawassie Club, overlooking the marsh. October in the Lowcountry brings some of the best conditions of the year. Clear skies, comfortable air, and light that settles softly across the landscape. The setting didn’t need much. The space, the view, and the people gathered there carried the moment.

Portraits Along the Marsh

After the ceremony, we stepped into portraits with the marsh just beyond. This part of the Lowcountry has a way of slowing everything down.

Open space, soft grasses, and light that moves gently across the water. Marah and Jonathan moved through it easily—taking in the moment rather than rushing past it.

A Reception Defined by Design

The reception inside the club was one of the most thoughtfully designed spaces of the day. Every detail felt considered. Custom koozies, embroidered elements, and a layout that created a natural flow between spaces. The dance floor overlooked the outdoor cocktail area, where guests gathered along the marsh before moving inside as the evening progressed. It created a layered experience. Not just a single room—but a series of spaces that worked together.

A Celebration That Carried Through the Night

As the evening moved on, the energy built naturally. Guests moving between indoor and outdoor spaces, conversations continuing outside while the dance floor filled inside. The kind of night where everything feels connected. Where the design supports the experience rather than competing with it.

Why Callawassie Island Club Is Such a Unique Lowcountry Venue

Callawassie Club offers something that’s harder to find. A coastal setting that feels private, expansive, and deeply tied to the landscape.

It allows for:

  • outdoor ceremonies with marsh views
  • indoor receptions with intentional design
  • and a day that moves naturally between both

Marah and Jonathan’s wedding is a perfect example of how seamless that can feel.

Planning a Fall Wedding in the Lowcountry

October is one of the most ideal times to get married in this part of South Carolina. The weather is comfortable, the light is soft, and the entire experience feels more relaxed. Building your day around that—outdoor ceremony, indoor reception, time to move between spaces—creates a wedding that feels both elevated and easy.
